Andrew Freedman Debates Sidley's Kai Liekefett on Hot Button Universal Proxy Rule

Speaking Engagement

On November 5th, Olshan Partner and Co-Chair of the firm’s Shareholder Activism Group Andrew Freedman debated Kai Liekefett, Partner and Co-Chair of the Shareholder Activism & Corporate Defense Practice at Sidley Austin LLP,  on the pros and cons of the SEC’s universal proxy proposal. The virtual debate, “Proxy Access on Steroids or an Advance in Shareholder Democracy?” comes in the wake of the SEC announcing it would reconsider its 2016 proposal to adopt a universal proxy rule and re-invited comments on this proposal. Olshan is one of only two firms to submit a formal comment letter to the SEC, and Andy firmly believes that this proposal would enhance shareholder democracy. The debate, moderated by Professor Lucian A. Bebchuk from Harvard Law School, was co-sponsored by the Society for Corporate Governance and the American College of Governance Counsel.
