Dorothy Sluszka Publishes Article in The Legal Intelligencer on Firm Culture in the Age of Hybrid

Olshan corporate associate Dorothy Sluszka authored an article for The Legal Intelligencer (subscription required) entitled “Purposeful Action by Associates Can Create Firm Culture in the Age of Hybrid” in which she discusses the impact on law firm culture of widespread adoption of hybrid work, influenced greatly by the pandemic. Dorothy considers the pros and cons, including the effect on company morale, understanding the new office norms, and collaboration on cases. “The hybrid model has been an agent of expedited change for law firms in a profession that is otherwise more measured in its evolution,” she writes. “This unexpected break from the ordinary course presents a natural opportunity to reevaluate traditional practices and remodel firm cultures—retaining the fundamentals while eschewing some of the rigid and outdated mores.” Reflecting on her experience transitioning into a hybrid model, she observes, “For many, the hybrid schedule is a wonderful development, but I count myself lucky that my first few years as an associate were pre-pandemic. The firm culture from which I benefited greatly as a junior attorney can be replicated with the hybrid model, but it will need to be a targeted hybrid approach that relies on more deliberate and purposeful input and action by associates, partners, and administrators alike to create what ‘the best of both worlds’ looks like for each firm.
