Olshan Named to National Law Journal "2016 Midsize Hot List”
Olshan Frome Wolosky LLP announced today that the firm was named to the National Law Journal "2016 Midsize Hot List,” one of 20 midsize law firms that “embody lawyering at its essence — working hard to understand and serve their clients' needs,” according to The National Law Journal. This is the second time that Olshan has been honored as a Midsize Hot List law firm in the past several years, and was recognized for its premier Shareholder Activism practice, core practices in Corporate/Securities and Real Estate and the firm’s Advertising, Marketing & Promotions, Bankruptcy & Financial Restructuring, Employee Benefits, Employment, Intellectual Property, Litigation and Tax & Personal Planning practices.
“We are delighted to be honored once again by The National Law Journal as a top national midsize law firm,” said Thomas D. Kearns, a partner in the Real Estate practice at Olshan. “This significant acknowledgement is yet another indicia of Olshan’s position in the market as a leading national law firm with a bench of talented attorneys committed to client service that compete head to head with much larger firms.”
The National Law Journal profile of Olshan discusses its market position as a “"right size" firm, [that] continues to carve a niche as the "go to" firm for many of Wall Street's successful shareholder activists,” representing an overwhelming 22 percent majority of the 507 activist campaigns in 2015. The article also references Olshan’s success in winning a dismissal of all trademark and related state law claims by Lions Gate Entertainment Inc. against their clients, Havas Worldwide and TD Ameritrade Holding Corp., a team effort with the Litigation and Advertising, Marketing & Promotions practice, and the firm’s continued success in prevailing in the decades long trademark litigation between its client, the U.S. Polo Association, and Ralph Lauren, a team effort with the Litigation and Intellectual Property practices. Other matters mentioned include the "out-of-the-box" strategy devised by the Shareholder Activism practice for client H Partners Management LLC to unseat three targeted directors of Tempur Sealy International Inc., and the Real Estate practice’s lead in Madison Equities LLC's $260 million acquisition and financing of the "crown jewel" of the Ring real estate portfolio in New York.
As Mr. Kearns noted in the article, Olshan offers its lawyers "the ability to do really interesting, high-quality work in an entrepreneurial situation where that includes long-lasting client relationships" and "We're also able to give clients high-quality service for much less than what they would pay an Am Law 50 firm."
Olshan is consistently recognized by business, legal and trade publications as a leading law firm, including 2016 Chambers USA’s acknowledgement of the Real Estate practice and recognition of two Olshan attorneys as “America’s Leading Lawyers for Business”; consistent top rankings across the board for Olshan’s Shareholder Activism practice in every league table and publication that covers shareholder activism; the selection of five partners for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America© 2016; and U.S. News-Best Lawyers® “Best Law Firms” 2016 “Tier 1” National Rankings for Securities and Capital Markets, “Tier 2” National Rankings for Real Estate Law, and “Tier 1” rankings in the New York City Metropolitan area for both Securities and Capital Markets and Real Estate Law, in which Olshan was the only midsize law firm in New York to receive a “Tier 1” ranking for Securities and Capital Markets; and thirty-nine attorneys were selected for Super Lawyers® 2015 New York Metro.
