Luxury Daily Quotes Steven Gursky on Moët Hennessy’s Counterfeit Case in Hong Kong

July 7, 2017

Steven Gursky was quoted in a recent Luxury Daily article on the ruling by the High Court of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in favor of  LVMH's wine and spirits branch Moët Hennessy concerning the case of a counterfeit bottle of Krug Collection 1947. The bottle was presented by the Hong Kong auction house Acker Merrall & Condit in its September 2012 sales catalogue.  Mr. Gursky was quoted as saying that  "At bottom, this is somewhat of a standard counterfeiting case." He goes on to explain that  "Often, auction houses are treated with some deference in counterfeit matters and they are able to disclaim away their liability," but “… the Hong Kong court laid the burden for verifying the authenticity of the Champagne squarely on the auction house.”
