Cloud Computing: Keeping Employee, Customer, and Confidential Information Safe

Event

As a result of the inclement weather and aftermath caused by Hurricane Sandy, the webinar Cloud Computing:  Keeping Employee, Customer, and Confidential Information Safe has been re-scheduled to Wednesday, December 5, 2012, 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. EDT.  CLE credit will be available for this complimentary program which will offer a primer on the subject of cloud computing.

Cloud computing offers myriad advantages, from lower costs to improved manageability of applications to less maintenance.  But there are also numerous concerns about, among other important issues, data security and privacy, business continuity and disaster recovery, and loss of control.  Companies may not be comfortable transferring their data to a third party, especially sensitive information.  Employee data, such as payroll, health and other benefits data, customer data and a company’s own confidential data must be kept safe.  Companies must deal with privacy- and security-related due diligence as well as ensuring appropriate contractual protection.

Who should be listening?

• In-house counsel
• Privacy professionals
• Human resources professionals
• IT/IS professionals
• Advertisers and agencies operating promotions that involve the collection of information from consumers
• Anyone that uses or is considering the cloud or any third party information technology service provider storage and/or processing of confidential employee, customer, client, or business data

In this one-hour session, Olshan information technology, employment, and marketing law specialists will help you avoid future problems by exploring, among other topics:
• The data privacy and security issues presented by cloud offerings;
• The essential questions that must be asked of third providers;
• The safeguards necessary for transferring data to the cloud; and
• The allocation of compliance responsibilities by customers and providers.

Olshan speakers will be William R. MacDonald, a partner in Olshan’s Intellectual Property practice group, who regularly advises clients in a number of industries with regard to information technology and data privacy and security issues, Aliza F. Herzberg, a partner in Olshan’s Employment Practices group, who helps employers manage all aspects of their relationships with employees, and Adam Z. Solomon, a partner in Olshan’s Advertising, Marketing & Promotions practice group, who advises internet companies, brands, marketers and agencies on consumer data privacy issues.
