Thomas Kearns Publishes Article in NYREJ on Artificial Intelligence in Legal Practice
New York Real Estate Journal recently published an article authored by Olshan Real Estate Law Of Counsel Thomas Kearns entitled “Artificial Intelligence War Stories.” (The article is also available on our blog.) In the article, Tom examines the opportunities and limitations of using artificial intelligence tools in legal practice, drawing on several examples from his experience applying AI to commercial real estate matters. He discusses how AI can assist lawyers in reviewing and drafting transaction documents, the importance of lawyer-developed checklists, precedents and detailed prompts in improving AI-generated work product, and why experienced legal judgment and review remain essential. Tom also considers how lawyers can use AI to build on their existing areas of expertise and improve client service. “Lawyers will continue to work with these tools and develop ways to have them improve client service,” he writes, “but they are not magic, and their effectiveness will be greatly enhanced by the lawyer’s own input of checklists, samples, and detailed prompts.”
