Olshan Secures Immediate Release for Pro Bono Client in Federal Supervised Release Proceeding
Olshan secured a favorable outcome for pro bono client Robert Sabet in a supervised release violation proceeding before Judge Eric Komitee of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, obtaining a sentence of time served and his immediate release from federal custody. Mr. Sabet had previously served a federal sentence arising from a healthcare fraud matter. He was brought before the court on allegations that he violated the terms of his supervised release through repeated positive drug tests. The government sought an additional custodial sentence and an extension of supervision. Litigation and White Collar & Government Investigations partner Derrelle Janey and Litigation associate Tamar Prince argued that further incarceration was not warranted and that Mr. Sabet's substance use issues should be addressed through rehabilitation rather than additional imprisonment. The defense also advised the court that Mr. Sabet would voluntarily surrender his pharmacist license. Following the hearing, Judge Komitee imposed a sentence of time served, resulting in Mr. Sabet's immediate release and concluding his supervision. Mr. Sabet thanked his Olshan attorneys for their advocacy and dedication throughout the matter.
