Michael Passarella Publishes Article in HR Daily Advisor on How Employers Can Prepare as Union Organizing Rises

Article

Head of Olshan’s Employment Practice partner Michael Passarella authored an article in HR Daily Advisor that explains how companies can prepare for and mitigate the potential for union organizing. Mike details the importance of employers focusing more on employee relations, incentives, and the increased priority of implementing employee satisfaction efforts. “Many employers seeking to remain union-free are reviewing compensation and benefits packages for competitiveness in the market. They must continue to do so because there’s frequently no substitute for above-market wages or comprehensive benefits,” he writes. “Creative and meaningful measures to incentivize and reward hard work are especially important in 2023 and beyond.” Mike concludes that “Employees are more focused than ever on non-compensation elements and benefits of the job. Employees in 2023 are expecting flexibility (e.g., remote or hybrid work, time off, etc.) that employees in 2018 would never have envisioned. While this creates challenges for companies adjusting to the post-COVID workplace reality, it also provides an opportunity.”
