Mark Jon Sugarman Joins Olshan’s Litigation Practice

Olshan Frome Wolosky LLP is pleased to announce that Mark Jon Sugarman has joined the firm and is bringing his ground lease, commercial office and retail rent revaluation arbitration practice to Olshan’s Litigation and Real Estate Practices.

“Mark is one of the small group of lawyers who are in demand to arbitrate the most important ground lease and commercial lease rent revaluation disputes in Manhattan and he will add an important new dimension to our existing ground leasing team,” said Thomas D. Kearns, a partner in Olshan’s Real Estate Law Practice. Olshan currently represents several of the leading ground lessors in New York including the lessors of the Lever Building, 1 Penn Plaza, 111 Wall Street, 608 Fifth Avenue and the Surrey Hotel, and is an established leader in this area of practice in New York.

Mr. Sugarman brings thirty-five years of experience to Olshan, and was most recently a partner in Bryan Cave’s Litigation practice. Prior to that he was a partner in the Commercial Litigation practice at Robinson Silverman Pearce Aronsohn & Berman, which merged with Bryan Cave in January 2003. Mr. Sugarman’s practice at Olshan will focus on ground lease and commercial office lease rent revaluation disputes and related matters, areas in which he has significant experience and expertise.

Although Mr. Sugarman has trial and appellate experience in a wide variety of other civil litigation areas, including partnership disputes, construction litigation, commercial brokerage disputes and defamation actions, his prowess in the rent revaluation niche is well known to both the New York bar that practices in this area as well as the relevant real estate appraisal community.

Mr. Sugarman has lectured extensively on land valuation litigation and arbitration, and for a number of years has served the New York University School of Journalism as a guest lecturer on First Amendment issues and freedom of the press. His professional affiliations include the New York State Bar Association and the American Bar Association, and he is a former Secretary of the Committee on Second Circuit Courts of the Federal Bar Council. Mr. Sugarman received his J.D. from Rutgers University with honors, his M.A. from the University of Michigan with high honors, and his B.A. cum laude from the City College of the City University of New York.
